Thermocouple temperature meter with built-in data-logging and graphing

Saelig Company Inc. has introduced the Lascar EL-ENVIROPAD-TC - a conveniently-sized thermocouple-based temperature meter for spot temperature readings with additional built-in data-logging and graphing functionalities. This robust and easy to use handheld device takes and records temperature readings via the supplied K-type thermocouple probe. Control and display is via a 2.8" color touch screen, which indicates current temperature to a resolution of 0.1degC, maximum and minimum readings, and will produce an immediate graph of the data readings. Operation is user-selectable in Fahrenheit or Centigrade.

The EL-ENVIROPAD-TC has two key functions - data logging and spot measurement with display. When in data logging mode, the EL-ENVIROPAD-TC can be set and left to take standalone temperature readings at a pre-determined intervals for a desired length of time. When in the spot measurement mode, the unit can be used as a thermometer to capture instant temperature readings displayed on the screen. The unit is capable of storing over 65,000 real-time or logged time-stamped readings, which can be downloaded in CSV format to a PC via a USB connection for further analysis, report writing, etc. The USB port is also used for charging the internal battery for up to 24 hours of operation.

Added capabilities include user-configurable audible high and low level alarms. When a preset enabled limit is reached, the EL-ENVIROPAD-TC sounds an audible alarm and the real-time display flashes red. The audible alarm will persist - even after measured temperatures return to normal levels - until reset. The display's background color changes to indicate alarm states: grey = readings within defined limits; red = upper limit exceeded; blue = lower limit exceeded. Data logging sessions may begin immediately, or at a programmable future date and time. The software also has a useful Predefined Checklist Mode: the EL-ENVIROPAD-TC can be used as an electronic checklist to do spot temperature checks on a predefined sequence of items. The free EL-EP software allows users to define a list of checks with custom settings such as: checklist name, temperature scale, items to check, and acceptable temperature limits - great for quality control applications.

Versatile Paddle Wheel Flow Sensor—Model DF

The rugged, reliable KOBOLD DF series paddle wheel flow sensor is available in seven material combinations allowing it to be used with low-viscosity, water-based liquids as well as with more aggressive chemicals. The DF is supplied as standard with an NPN pulse frequency output. Its compact size, combination of various materials and cost-effective price make the DF the ideal flow sensor for many industrial and OEM applications.

How it Works:

The flow sensor contains a multipole magnet ring embedded in the paddle wheel. When the wheel rotates, the magnets induce a DC signal into a Hall-Effect sensor that’s mounted on the device housing. Since the DC signal frequency is proportional to the paddle wheel’s rotation, you get an accurate flow rate reading.

When coupled with the appropriate KOBOLD electronics unit, the DF sensor can offer you numerous useful features including frequency output, analog output, adjustable switches, digital displays with integrated batch controllers, or totalizers.

The DF is easy to install, with no straight run required.

Yokogawa releases DTSX3000 Distributed Temperature Sensor

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it will release the DTSX®3000 distributed temperature sensor on August 12. With a one meter spatial resolution, this distributed temperature sensor can measure the temperature along fiber-optic cables up to 50 km in length, eight times the distance possible with our previous model. In terms of measurement distance and temperature resolution, this is one of the industry’s top-performing distributed temperature sensors.

The DTSX3000 is well suited for plant and infrastructure maintenance applications that necessitate the monitoring of temperature over long distances or across wide areas. Specific applications include the detection of gas and liquid leaks in tanks and other large production facilities, and the detection of abnormal heat levels in power lines.

Development Background:

Yokogawa currently sells the DTSX®200 distributed temperature sensor for use in applications that include the monitoring of temperatures in unconventional oil and gas wells, the detection of leaks of high- or low-temperature liquids and gasses from pipelines or tanks, and the detection of abnormal heat buildup in coal and wood chip conveyors. In contrast to conventional techniques that rely on the use of multiple surveillance cameras or thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors, distributed temperature sensors can be easily routed along the course of any object that requires management. Their temperature readings can be displayed on a computer monitor, allowing maintenance personnel to quickly spot and respond to any problems.

With its long measurement distance and high temperature resolution, the DTSX3000 meets the needs of those for a single device that is capable of detecting minute temperature changes and monitoring the temperature distribution over a long distance or across a wide area.

Magnetrol POLARIS Electromagnetic Flow Meter

Magnetrol POLARIS is an electromagnetic flow meter that is capable of measuring liquids with a conductivity as low as 5 µS/cm in closed pipes. It is an accurate and repeatable flow meter that is suitable for a variety of water based and sludge flow applications. The Polaris transmitter is backlit and rotatable with the capability of measuring forward and reverse flow rates as well as total volume. HART® capability allows the use of PACTware™ for configuration and diagnostics. The sensor can be flanged or wafer style and is available with an assortment of standard liners and electrode materials.

Applications: Water based liquids and sludge flows

Operating Principle:

The function of an electromagnetic flow meter is based on Faraday’s law of induction. The sensor consists of a non-magnetic and non-conductive tube with two embedded measuring electrodes. To create an alternating magnetic field, two coils are fitted onto the tube in parallel with the plane defined by the active parts of the measuring electrodes. If a conductive liquid flows across the magnetic field, a voltage will appear on the measuring electrodes proportional to the flow velocity and the conductor length.
