Magnetrol HERMATEL® TA2 Mass Flow Transmitter

Magnetrol Mass Flow Meter.jpgThe Thermatel® Model TA2 thermal mass flow transmitter, based on thermal dispersion technology, provides reliable mass measurement for air and gas flow applications. The powerful, yet easy-to-use, electronics are contained in a compact explosion-proof enclosure. The TA2 is available with both insertion probes, as well as flow body design for smaller pipe sizes. The TA2 offers excellent performance at an exceptional value.  The TA2 offers the user the ability to verify calibration in the field, reducing the need for periodic recalibration.

Operating Principle:

THERMATEL Model TA2 mass flow transmitter measures mass flow by detecting heat dissipation from a heated surface. The sensor contains two mass balanced elements with precision matched RTDs. The reference sensor measures the process temperature (up to +400° F [+200° C]); the second RTD measures the temperature of the heated sensor. The power to the heater is varied to maintain a constant temperature difference above the reference temperature.

There is an inherent non-linear relationship between power and mass flow. The microprocessor in the TA2 compares the power against the calibration curve and converts the power requirements to the mass flow rate. Temperature is also measured to provide temperature compensation of the mass flow over the operating range of the instrument.

Applications:

Combustion Air

Compressed Air

Natural Gas

Aeration Air

Digester/Biogas

Vent Lines/Flare Headers

Hydrogen Lines

MultiTrak™ 670S: Large Duct and Stack High-Performance Multi-Point Mass Flow

Sierra MultiTra 670SMulti-Point Mass Flow.jpgSierra's MultiTrak™ 670S is an advanced state-of-the-art instrument for measuring mass flow rates in very large ducts or stacks that have non-uniform velocity profiles, high turn-down requirements, dirty gas streams, wide temperature ranges and fast velocity and temperature changes. The MultiTrak™ dynamically compensates for changes in the flow profile by using up to four independent mass flow sensing points to measure the instantaneous average gas mass flow velocity. The MultiTrak™ is commonly used in petrochemical refining, coal-fired electric power generation, steel manufacturing and many other industrial processes that face the challenge of accurate and repeatable gas mass flow measurement in very large pipes or ducts.

An innovative, versatile and user-friendly microprocessor-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) controls all functions of the MultiTrak™system. The HMI is used to collect, visualize and store flow data, as well as set up the individual sensor points, thus allowing the entire system to be easily configured in the field. The MultiTrak™ HMI integrates the functions of flow measurement, flow-range adjustment, field validation and diagnostics, and displays mass flow rate and totalized flow, as well as other configuration variables. All of this data is easily programmable from the HMI's easy-to-use touch screen.

Unlike single probe insertion sensors where each sensor point is on the same insertion probe, each MultiTrak™ sensor point is completely independent of the others, allowing for easy field swap-out or cleaning of individual transmitters.

  • The standard 670S system consists of up to four sensing points linked via Modbus, one control box with touch-screen HMI and a 4-20mA output module with the associated cables (power, 4-20mA output cable for daisy-chaining all sensing points).
  • Innovative and user-friendly HMI offers advances over industry-standard collector boxes and allows users to:
  • Average the flow of 4 meters
  • Convert flow units
  • Set up the density of the gas for mass flow measurement
  • Easily configure the individual meters
  • Set up alarms
  • Unique multiple transmitter approach allows individual points to be removed for service or repair without shutting down the system
  • Direct mass flow monitoring eliminates the need for separate temperature and pressure inputs
  • Accuracy +/- 1 % of reading plus 0.5% of full scale
  • Patented Dry-Sense™ technology eliminates sensor drift
  • State-of-the-art calibration facility ensures a highly accurate calibration that matches the application
  • High temperature option to 750ºF (400ºC) available
  • Low pressure hot taps available

Highly Accurate ST98 Flow Meter reduces Plant HVAC Boiler Fuel Consumption & Costs

ST98 Flow Meter .jpgThe ST98 Flow Meter’s thermal mass flow sensor design provides direct mass flow measurement without the need for additional temperature or pressure sensors or density calculating devices, as well as the plant real estate and technician time needed to install these extra devices at their additional cost. Its insertion style configuration makes the ST98 meter simple to install in existing piping without cutting the pipe or welding, offering minimal interruption to plant operations. The flexible and dependable ST98 flow meter is suitable for service in plant natural gas and numerous other process gases, hydrocarbon mixed or dirty gases, biogases including methane, and plant compressed air and HVAC systems.

The ST98 is today operating in plants worldwide, including industries such as electronics, oil/gas, chemical, power generation, food/beverage, pharmaceutical, pulp/paper, steel, wastewater treatment and more. With an advanced thermal mass sensing element, the ST98 Flow Meter provides accurate flow measurement over a wide flow range. Accuracy is ±1% of reading, plus ±0. 5% of full scale. Exceptionally consistent, the ST98 meter offers repeatability to ±0.5% of reading. The insertion style ST98 meter flow range is from 0.75 to 600 SFPS [0.21 to 172 NPS] in air at standard conditions of 70 ° F [21.2 °C] and 14.7 psia [0°C and 1013,25 bar (a)], typical for most gases.

Rockwell Automation HART-Enabled I/O Modules offer access in extreme Process Applications

FLEX IO Module.jpgRockwell Automation has introduced a HART-enabled Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O-XT module, an industrially hardened I/O platform that helps OEMs and end users reduce wiring, installation time and enclosure costs.  As industrial applications continue to move into remote locations of the world, the market requires specially designed control equipment to survive extreme environments. The new HART-enabled I/O modules access data from smart field devices that were previously isolated in harsh environments, helping feed performance data into asset management software for a more holistic view of operations and maintenance needs.

“FLEX I/O modules remain one of the top selling distributed I/O platforms today,” said Chan Wai, product manager, Rockwell Automation. “The HART-enabled FLEX I/O-XT module further strengthens our portfolio, and is an ideal fit for the Integrated Architecture and PlantPAx applications from Rockwell Automation with extreme environments.”

The FLEX I/O-XT modules are conformally coated to protect against corrosives, dust, gases, salt, condensation, humidity and fungal growth. This industrial hardening eliminates the need for an enclosure, and the additional installation and energy costs associated with auxiliary heating and cooling systems.

The industrial coating to protect from airborne pollutants and moisture, paired with a minus 20 C to 70 C (minus 4 F to 185 F) temperature range, make the FLEX I/O-XT modules ideal for environmentally demanding environments, including energy and power generation, water/wastewater and on-ship applications.
