First On-Machine Controller by Rockwell Automation Simplifies System Architecture and space

Manufacturers and equipment builders are looking to simplify their machine architectures and reduce the system footprints. With the release of the Allen-Bradley Armor GuardLogix programmable automation controller (PAC), Rockwell Automation now provides users with a high-performance, multidisciplined control in a controller that can be installed directly on-machine.

The Armor GuardLogix PAC joins a growing portfolio of On-Machine solutions from Rockwell Automation that move the industrial controls and hardware closer to the application or onto the machine, minimizing the number of components in the cabinet. This reduces wiring time while helping increase uptime as maintenance and repair is made faster with pre-configured, quick connect systems and simplified wiring layouts.

The Armor GuardLogix PAC is IP67, SIL 3, PL(e), CAT 4 rated with 4 MB of application code storage space with two full-featured EtherNet/IP device-level ring (DLR) capable connections.

“With this controller, manufacturers can tap the power of our information-enabled Integrated Architecture system in a simple-to-use, but fully loaded on-machine controller,” said Geoff Sieron, product manager, GuardLogix controllers, Rockwell Automation. “Additionally, as manufacturing control systems evolve, our customers are replacing aging equipment with simplified systems. Quick-connect cabling greatly streamlines system wiring so the system is easier to install, troubleshoot and maintain. This can be especially crucial to machine and equipment builders looking to improve time-to-market, testing and commissioning.”

The Armor GuardLogix PAC provides access to the controller-mode switch, USB port, secure digital (SD) card and power-supply switch, along with 24V DC power pass-through to supply power to other On‑Machine products. This feature allows power to be routed from one machine device or module to another, eliminating the need for a power supply for each device and simplifying the overall system architecture. Innovative mounting tabs can be rotated vertically or horizontally, giving users flexibility on where and how the product can be mounted. The controller is programmed in the Rockwell Software Studio 5000 design and engineering environment.

Agilent Technologies adds Real-Time Measurement Uncertainty Capability to USB Thermocouple

Agilent Technologies Inc. has announced the addition of two new models to its U8480 Series USB thermocouple power sensors. The U8480 Series now comes with improved specifications, including an expanded frequency range to 67 GHz and a measurement speed of 900 readings/second, maintaining the U8480 Series' status as the world's fastest USB thermocouple power sensors.

The U8480 Series' real-time measurement uncertainty feature, the one of the first of its kind in the industry, significantly reduces overall test time by removing the need for time-consuming manual measurement uncertainty (MU) calculations. Users can now compute MU in real time and at any given point. The feature also allows them to display power measurements and their MU simultaneously, simplifying test measurement and increasing test accuracy.

The U8480 Series provides best accuracy and repeatability with thermocouple sensing technology and a power linearity of less than 0.8 percent. The new S-parameter and gamma correction functions further improve measurement accuracy by correcting the mismatch errors caused by inserted components between the device-under-test and the power sensor, making the U8480 Series suitable for applications such as test system or instrument calibration.

Like all Agilent USB power sensors, the U8480 Series can be used as an accessory for other Agilent instruments, allowing these instruments to perform specific power measurement applications without needing to connect to a PC or laptop. The U8480 Series is compatible with Agilent FieldFox RF analyzers and MXG signal generators, giving them power meter functionalities. The power sensors also perform source power calibration with Agilent PNA, PNA-L and PNA-X network analyzers. And with USB functionality and the bundled N1918A Power Panel software, measuring high-frequency power measurements in applications ranging from high-volume manufacturing to calibration and field remote monitoring has never been more convenient.

"We designed the U8480 Series to address the test challenges that our customers face today," said Ee Huei Sin, vice president, Agilent's General-Purpose Electronic Measurement Division. "With the significant improvement in measurement speed and the unique real-time measurement uncertainty feature, these sensors allow users to accelerate their overall design cycle without compromising performance or accuracy."

Siemens new LG radar level transmitter provides application flexibility using guided waves

With its new Sitrans LG series, Siemens is offering a flexible portfolio of guided wave radar transmitters suitable for virtually any type of industrial application. The modular design of the four basic versions Sitrans LG240, Sitrans LG250, Sitrans LG260 and Sitrans LG270, with numerous configuration options, allows for level measurement in the oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical as well as food and beverage industries. The modular radar transmitter covers a broad application spectrum for the measurement of liquids and interfaces, from aggressive materials to hygienic conditions and complies with SIL2 safety standard.

Sitrans LG240 was specifically designed for hygienic applications in the pharmaceutical or food and beverage industries and has the required EHEDG, FDA and 3A certificates. The Sitrans LG250 is ideal for the wide range of liquid level measurement such as those in water treatment applications. The Sitrans LG260 version accurately measures levels of solids, granulates and powders even with extreme dust. In particularly harsh environments with high temperatures up to 450 degrees Celsius (842 °F) or high pressures up to 400 bar (5800 psig), such as those in the chemical or petrochemical industry, the Sitrans LG270 is the best choice.

Sitrans LG's high frequency microwave pulses are transmitted down a rod or cable, offering reliable measurement with up to two millimeter (0.08 inch) accuracy in applications with corrosive vapors, steam, foam, surface agitation and/or liquids with high viscosity, low level, and varying dielectric or density.

Installation is simple with the device's range of pre-configured options, such as customized enclosure materials, process connections, approvals and communication options. Users will be operational in minutes with four-button programming directly at the instrument or through remote configuration with Siemens Simatic PDM (Process Device Manager) via HART communications protocol.

Advantech Launches New Entry Level Multifunction PCIE DAQ Card

When users need the features of a 12 bits multifunction card i.e. analog trigger, and a waveform generator, the new PCIE-1810 with 16 channels, 12 bits and a 500KS/s sample rate is the best choice.

The PCIE-1810’s 500KS/s sample rate enables users to acquire more data in a waveform so that users can plot the measured waveform completely.    Through the use of the analog trigger mode for analog input users can set trigger levels so that when the event is triggered it will start acquiring data and filter unnecessary signal when the data needs to be analyzed.

If customers don’t have the extrabudget required by a dedicated waveform generator, the PCIE-1810 will do the same job. By being able to generate a wide range of continuous waveforms and display them on the PC’s monitor users can simulate and output waveforms for a range of features such as sound or vibration.
