Rotork launches third generation intelligent non-intrusive electric valve actuators

Rotork IQ3 now introduces new levels of functionality and asset management abilities combined with further refinements to a well-proven and rugged mechanical design. The third generation IQ strengthens the pedigree of a product that has led the way in intelligent actuation technology since its first appearance in the early1990s.

The large toughened glass wide angle indication window is the focus of attention for non-intrusive two way wireless communication and multi-functional indication, encompassing user-friendly menus for setting-up, configuration and commissioning, local position indication, valve and actuator status, asset management and diagnostic operating information.

An LCD segment display provides all actuator set-up and operating menus whilst detailed diagnostic and operating data screens are clearly displayed in dot matrix format. Four selectable screens are available, including actuator settings, torque and position, simultaneous demand and position and diagnostic graphics. Diagnostic graphics present a window into the process, showing the valve torque graph and facilitating real time analysis.

CMA actuator increases the scope of Rotork’s advanced electric control valve technology

Rotork Process Controls has launched a new range of compact, robust and reliable electric actuators for control valves, regulators and other continuous modulating applications. The CMA (Compact Modulating Actuator) extends the scope of Rotork’s proven technologies and the benefits inherent in the innovative Rotork CVA electric control valve actuator range. The CMA range increases the areas of flow control that can take advantage of these advanced features.

The Rotork CMA is available in linear, quarter-turn and multi-turn versions and a range of five compact sizes, facilitating the economical operation of numerous types of control valve, damper and pump stroke adjuster applications. Single-phase or DC electrical power supply is all that is required for control valve actuation, saving the on-going costs associated with the operation and maintenance of instrument air supplies.

The maintenance-free CMA drive train, permanently lubricated and protected in an IP67 watertight and, where required, explosionproof enclosure, can be mounted in any orientation. Accepting an industry-standard 4 -20mA command signal, the CMA delivers accurate and repeatable positional control. Resolution is 0.25% on linear and quarter-turn applications and 2 degrees on the multi-turn configuration.

Continuous and unrestricted modulating performance is provided by a brushless DC motor, magnetic contactless sensors and a lubricated for life drive train.

NI Expands SC Express PXI Sensor Measurement Family With New RTD Module

National Instrumentsrecently announced the NI PXIe-4357 RTD module, the latest addition to its SC Express sensor measurement family for PXI Express. The high-performance module is optimized for temperature measurements with Pt100 RTD sensors for a variety of thermal monitoring applications. The NI PXIe-4357 module integrates sensor-specific signal conditioning with 24-bit ADCs to sample all 20 channels at 100 S/s and offers typical accuracies of up to 0.09 degrees Celsius. To expand a system’s channel count, engineers can integrate additional NI PXIe-4357 modules or use other SC Express modules to add complementary sensor inputs including thermocouples, strain gages, accelerometers and FBG optical sensors to the same system.

ABB expands range of Symphony Plus products

Zurich, Switzerland, Apr. 24, 2012 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced the release of several new products as part of its Symphony™ Plus total plant automation platform for the power generation and water industries.

The new products include a new high-performance process controller named Symphony Plus Control HPC800 and three interface modules that expand the connectivity of the controller to intelligent electronic devices using the PROFIBUS DP and HART communication protocols.

HPC800 joins existing Symphony Plus Rack controllers and is suitable for applications that require modular DIN rail packaging. It also features a fast ethernet-based plant network that makes it ideal for geographically distributed control applications in conventional or renewable power plants and water networks.

The new controller combined with PROFIBUS and HART enables integration of intelligent devices such as smart transmitters, actuators, motor control centers, flame scanners and other electronic products. By using the same function code algorithms as Symphony Plus, Harmony, and INFI 90, the HPC800 controller enables customers to effectively reuse their extensive library of ABB control solutions.

“These new products are designed to provide maximum system flexibility, reliability and efficiency” said Franz-Josef Mengede, head of ABB’s Power Generation business, a part of the company’s Power systems division. “The initiative supports ABB’s continued commitment to Symphony Plus and is part of our ‘evolution without obsolescence' approach of introducing new technology while protecting the long-term investment of customers by ensuring compatibility with preceding generations.”
